Hello 👋

I go by Slava, but my full name is Viacheslav SHKIRSKIY. It’s quite formal, so I mostly use it for paperwork and publications. I’m a CNRS researcher in the PIXEL team at the ITODYS laboratory, Université Paris Cité. If you're familiar with the French academic system, my position is called chargé de recherche — a research-focused role without mandatory teaching duties, although I choose to teach occasionally purely for the pleasure of it. The closest equivalent in the Anglo-Saxon academic system would be an assistant or associate professor without teaching responsibilities.

I’ve been working as an independent researcher since 2021, following a PhD and several postdoctoral positions focused on corrosion, electrochemistry, local electrochemical methods, and COMSOL-based finite element simulations. Since then, I’ve broadened my expertise and now work almost exclusively on machine learning and the development of optical microscopy techniques applied to corrosion research.

Beyond my professional life, I have a strong passion for outdoor activities — especially rock climbing. Based in the Paris region, I’m an enthusiastic boulderer who enjoys exploring the sandstone blocks of the Fontainebleau forest, even on chilly, quiet days.
